SACHIN S. KUKREJA, MD

Dr. Kukreja is proud to open DFW Bariatrics and General Surgery. He truly loves the art and challenges of General and Bariatric surgery. Being Board-certified in Obesity Medicine and Fellowship Trained in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery, he offers comprehensive obesity care from medications and diet counseling, to non-surgical solutions, to the full range of surgical options – all through small (or no incisions) for a faster recovery.

After completion of medical school at the University of Texas Health Sciences at San Antonio, he did his General Surgery training at Rush University Medical Center and John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County (commonly referred to simply as Cook County). He then went on to do a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed his board certifications in both General Surgery and Obesity Medicine.

He founded the Bariatric surgery program at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago in 2010 and was the director of Bariatric Surgery at the Dallas VA. In 2016, he was the highest volume Robotic General Surgeon and did the most number of bariatric surgeries in the VA system. He has multiple publications in both journals and book chapters, has given numerous presentations across a wide variety of venues, has received teaching awards for Resident Education, belongs to various national committees, has performed live surgery broadcast to national meetings, and was previously Assistant Professor of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

He is currently the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery at Medical City Dallas Hospital and Medical Director of Metabolism and Nutrition at Methodist Dallas Center where he oversees the growth of both the medical and surgical weightless programs. He is a proctor, consultant, and speaker for Intuitive Surgical allowing him the opportunity to mentor surgeons around the country on implantation of robotic surgery technology in their practices. He is also a speaker for Aesculap, Inc and Apollo Endosurgery.

Dr. Hooper is excited to bring her passion and expertise to the care of bariatric and general surgery patients in the DFW area. She is board certified in General Surgery and Fellowship trained in Bariatric Surgery. She completed medical school at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City.

She then went on to complete her General Surgery internship and residency in Chicago at Rush University Medical Center and John H Stroger Cook County Hospital (aka Cook County) from 2007-2012. She then went on to complete her Bariatric Surgery fellowship in 2012-2013 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Hooper joined a multi-specialty practice group, Mercy Clinic in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Dr. Hooper practiced in Oklahoma City from 2013-2020 focusing on both general surgery and bariatric surgery. She joined DFW Bariatrics and General Surgery in the fall of 2020 and continues to focus on bariatric surgery.  General Surgery such as cholecystectomy, inguinal hernia repair, and anti-reflux operations remain an important portion of her practice as well.

Dr. Rebecca Barr brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in bariatrics and general surgery to the DFW Bariatrics and General Surgery team. She is a dedicated professional, passionate about providing the best care to her patients and helping them achieve their health and wellness goals.

Dr. Barr completed her undergraduate studies with a B.S. in Biology and minors in Art and Anthropology from Brandeis University. She then pursued her medical degree from the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Following her medical degree, Dr. Barr undertook her internship at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, and her General Surgery Residency at Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, MO.
